Ternary fault permeability diagram: An innovative way to estimate fault zones hydraulics

چکیده
Understanding the impact of fault zones on reservoir trap properties is a major challenge for variety geological resources applications. Fault in cohesive rocks are complex structures, composed 3 components: rock matrix, damage zone fractures and core rock. Despite diversity methods to estimate permeability/drain properties, up date none them integrate simultaneously all three components, nor their evolution with time. In this paper, we present ternary plot that characterizes permeability as well drainage properties. The aims at characterizing between vertices (matrix, permeability) defining drain among 4 possible hydraulic systems: (I) good horizontal vertical, fault-perpendicular -parallel; (II) moderate parallel fluid pathway; (III) fault-core (IV) fractures. method valid or 2 components zones. application Castellas field case study (SE France) shows simplicity efficiency studying underground cropping out active and/or fossil, simple polyphase faults reservoirs complete limited data.

Characterization of Fault Zones
There are currently three major competing views on the nature of earthquake fault zones. The first is that faults are (possibly segmented and heterogeneous) Euclidean zones in a continuum solid. The second focuses on granular aspects of faults and deformation fields. The third is that faults are fundamentally rough fractal objects at all relevant scales. The existing data can not distinguish un...
متن کاملAn LPV Approach to Sensor Fault Diagnosis of Robotic Arm
One of the major challenges in robotic arms is to diagnosis sensor fault. To address this challenge, this paper presents an LPV approach. Initially, the dynamics of a two-link manipulator is modelled with a polytopic linear parameter varying structure and then by using a descriptor system approach and a robust design of a suitable unknown input observer by means of pole placement method along w...
متن کاملMechanics, Structure and Evolution of Fault Zones
The brittle portion of the Earth’s lithosphere contains a distribution of joints, faults and cataclastic zones that exist on a wide range of scale-lengths and usually have complex geometries including bends, jogs, and intersections. The material around these complexities is subjected to large stress concentrations, which lead during continuing deformation to the generation of new fracture and g...
متن کاملReflected and transmitted waves from fault zones
Waves reflected from and transmitted across fault zones can be used to extract information on those zones. Fault zones, characterized as either a low-velocity zone or fracture systems, modify the phase of the waveform and make the seismic response frequency dependent. In this paper we develop an extrapolation scheme for simulating fractures described as linear slip boundaries. Two 9 × 9 linear ...

, the estimate of a linear approximation supported by a rough measurement of the value of "a" for the load in question may be far more useful than having no model at all. Acknowledgments. Akira Sekino developed a hierarchical strategy for system modeling which exposed the usefulness of a model of the mean headway between missing pages [15]. Professor F.J.
